Founder behind the organic kids
Chasing a common dream & organic clothing passion found new hope when Ms. Nandini Girish & Ms. Dhiju Anoob met at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bengaluru.
Our learnings & research at NIFT made us aware of the impact, the textiles industry has on the planet.
It is hard to imagine living without textiles. Clothes provide comfort, protection, & for many represent an expression of individuality. The textiles industry is a significant sector in the global economy, employing hundreds of millions.
The textiles system runs in a completely linear way: enormous amounts of non-renewable resources are extracted to produce clothes that are often used only a short time, after which the materials are sent to landfill or burnt.
- More than INR 34 lakh crores of value is lost every year due to underutilization & the lack of recycling.
- Greenhouse gas emissions from textiles production, at 120 crores tonnes annually, are more than those of all international flights & shipping combined.
- When washed, some garments release plastic microfibres, of which around 5 lakhs tonnes every year contribute to ocean pollution – 16 times more than plastic microbeads from cosmetics.
